Invitation To Change |
2002
This is the fourth one of the series. In this quilt I wanted to explore the beginning of her healing process. She is now far enough away through time from the crisis that she can begin to reflect on her life and what she may want her life to look like in the future.
This is the point that she is in decision mode. She is still surrounded by darkness but not the extent that she was. Her feet are still firmly placed on the old path (represented by the grey part of the sprial) that represents her comfort zone that she won't easily move away from. But, she is looking towards the rainbow of hope, of a new life; she ponders the invitation to change what she can as she looks towards her future. Her nudity still speaks to her vulnerablilty at this point.
What will she take with her of this experience? What will she change so she will never have to repeat this time in her life again? I have placed grey in the rainbow part of the sky to reflect how, even though she may choose to live in a very new way, the old life will still be part of her and will still influence her.
However, should she choose to stay on the path that has created the crisis in the first place; by building another relationship with a similar type of person, continuing to smoke after the diagnoses of cancer, or the myriad of other ways that the veils of illusion can be held tightly over her eyes and heart, so as to not have to make the changes that could be very difficult. Even if the changes could mean healing, still some of the new ways of seeing (represented by the rainbow in the grey portion of the sky) will be noticeable in how she lives.
